Thursday 12/3/09 Matthew Chapter 11

After reading this chapter I sit an ponder the thoughts???

The chapter starts out with Jesus moving on after instructing His disciples. John the baptist is in jail, and he sends his disciples to ask Jesus ..... Are you the one who was to come or should we expect someone else. To me that in it self is a hard question to ask someone.... Then Jesus tells them to go back and tell John what they have seen or heard that Jesus did. Then makes an interesting statement. "Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me" (I looked it up in the message and found this translation..."Is this what you were expecting? Then count yourselves most blessed!" makes more sense to me this way..

10 Jesus explains that another prophet was fullfilled. Mal 3:1

20 Woe on Unrepentant Cities:

I can't imagine the shame if you were from those cities...

25 I copied the last of the chapter from the message it really made more sense to me:

25-26Abruptly Jesus broke into prayer: "Thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth. You've concealed your ways from sophisticates and know-it-alls, but spelled them out clearly to ordinary people. Yes, Father, that's the way you like to work."

27Jesus resumed talking to the people, but now tenderly. "The Father has given me all these things to do and say. This is a unique Father-Son operation, coming out of Father and Son intimacies and knowledge. No one knows the Son the way the Father does, nor the Father the way the Son does. But I'm not keeping it to myself; I'm ready to go over it line by line with anyone willing to listen.

28-30"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."

  1. Interesting that God gives us yet another example of a person who finds themselves in a postion where they are filled with doubt. Guess He realized that there would be times in our lives when we would find ourselves in that position and He was showing us that even the strongest among us have moments when they are uncertain. I'm SO thankful we have a God who understands those kind of thoughts. I'm also thankful that He has given us the Bible to show us how to work through those times and to grow closer to Him!

verses 16-19 I had to smile as I read about the way Jesus described His generation....Sounds familiar doesn't it. It appears that every generation has lots of things in common no matter how far back in history we go. Like people today, those who surrounded Jesus just weren't satisfied with what He said or did.

verses 28-30 I LOVE these verses----who among us hasn't been weary and carried heavy burdens. Don't we all yearn for rest at some point or other? Again, Jesus experienced these things and understands what we are going through. He speaks from having been in that position. To me, that is amazing!!!

Mona, thanks so much for leading us in this study!!!
