Okay I don't know if this hit me differently because of just reading John and having it still in my head? verse 2 The Magi (Wise Men) asked "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?...." I thought this was very interesting?? For this is what was put on the cross king of the Jews.
I love to look up in the Old Testament where prohets have written things and then it comes true, there was several of these in this chapter, verse 5 sends us to Micah 5:2
verse 9 I have done alot of traveling at night and I have never noticed or been able to follow a star?? That in it self is enough to make you believe.
Now is where I need some huge help!! Attention Attention calling all bible scholars!!! verse 11 On coming to the HOUSE (not stable, no animals!!) Is my manger scene incorrect?? Someone please help me with this one!!
In verse 15 it take us back to Hosea 11:1 for more prophet being fulfilled and in verse 18 takes us to Jeremiah 31:15.
I don't know about you but I would so love to hear the voice of God let alone have one of His angels appear to me in a dream verse 19.
Wow what a day!! This study is going to prove to be very interesting and fulfilling for me!!

You know what I'm overwhelmed by as I read this? The obedience of Joseph. It says that he heard the voice of the angel and got up in the night, took his family and high-tailed it to Egypt. It was INSTANT obedience. We don't see him second-guessing God's words to him, we don't see him wavering in doubt....he heard God's words and instantly obeyed. I envy him that kind of heart - to hear God's words so clearly. I envy him his obedience - instant and doubtless.
ReplyDeleteGod - please grant me the heart and obedience of Joseph.
Hi Mona and Lauren....Hope you had a great Tuesday. I had to smile when I read your comments. Some of my notes echo your thoughts....
ReplyDeleteI've always found it interesting the way chapter 2 has so many instances of the fulfillment of prophecy. As I was reading today I noticed how many times God used dreams to connect with Joseph. That's something I haven't really taken note of before.
Mona...My Bible also mentions HOUSE in verse 11...When I first read that part years ago I also thought that was a bit stange. I guess I've just assumed that the Wise Men didn't arrive until sometime well after the birth of Jesus. I guess I thought that Mary, Joseph, and Jesus had found a warmer/safer place to stay by the time they showed up. I wonder if Pastor Jim could give us some input :) (I LOVE things like this that make me go hmmmm....they aren't earth-shattering, they won't impact the truth of what is written, but I can't help but want to figure out what's going on.....
Lauren....I have several notations about how AMAZED I am with Joseph's immediate trust/obedience every single time God spoke to him. For Joseph to face public humiliation with a pregnant fiance, for him to just pick up and leave for Egypt and then to return to Isreal when instructed to do so, shows trust that is hard to fathom. Oh, if only I could trust God in such a complete manner. Don't you love the fact that we serve a God who doesn't expect that we will all be able to react in the same way Joseph does...He just asks that we continue reaching out to Him............
Hope this makes sense....it's 1 A.M. and I've had a long day....
O.K. I must really be tired...I was checking over my post and noticed that it says it was posted at 12:07....my clock says it's after 1:00 !!! the time stamp must be a bit off. For a minute there I thought I was more tired than I realized. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great Wednesday!!!!
