Well Thanksgiving Weekend has come and gone. The business for Christmas has begun. I am finding distractions to try and not do my bible study time and prayer time. I am so glad that I have this blog and all of you keeping me on my toes!! Thanks for joining in on this study!!
On with Matthew Chapter 7:
1-6 There is a lot to be said with judging.. I truly believe it is the root of all evil. You focus on others and want what they want or think you are better, you might even gossip about them. If you are truely focused on God you can not judge others. And it takes so much time.
7. I love the thought "Ask and it will be given to you". I have learned to be careful what you ask for because you may learn how to achieve it like PATIENCE!! In order to be patient you have to be given opportunities in order to practice it. I always want to have it not practice it!!
13,14 Again even thou small in size huge in meaning. Sometimes the gate is so small we miss it!! Or we are so focused on looking for the gate we don't know we are already in and on the road and miss the journey!!
17 one question I think we need to ask ourselves constantly ..... What kind of fruit am I bearing??
21 reminds me that we have a lot of work to do. It is not all about getting unbelievers to commit but helping them learn and grow in their faith. With this being said we should have no problem with christians signing up to be teacher to help others grow in their faith. (This is my soap box can you tell!) There is a place for all of us to serve and reach out to new christians. Find a place and get started!! Remember just because someone believes or comes to church doesn't mean they are going to make it to heaven!!

Glad I'm not the only one who finds that there are way too many distractions these days...some good, others not so good. Just makes us work harder to keep up with the REALLY important things, right :)
ReplyDeleteverse 1: I like that we are reminded that, before we decide to judge others, we need to check out ourselves since we often have far bigger issues than the one we are judging. Isn't it interesting that we can find fault with one person's actions (usually someone we're not fond of) but will ignore, or justify, the same action when someone we like does the same thing.
verse 12: kind of clear isn't it!! "Do for others what you would like them to do for you" The notation in my Bible was great...It points out that Jesus spoke positively---telling us take the initiative and do something good for others rather than stating the same idea in a negative way (Don't do to others what you don't want done to you.)
verse 21: "Not all people who sound religious are really godly." This is a verse we all need to take to heart. Too often we hear someone who quotes Scripture and seems to know so much more than we do. We can fall into the trap of assuming they are speaking the truth. While they MAY be good teachers they can also be someone we should steer clear of. How do we know the difference? By becoming a Berean..listen to what is being said and then check for yourself to see if the words match what the Bible says.
verses 24-27 I love the analogy of a house that collapses if the foundation isn't strong and the way our life will fall apart if we aren't grounded with Christ. We all know that life will be filled with trials and that if our foundation in Christ isn't strong then Satan will be right there to "shift the weak foundation" until it cracks and breaks!
Have a great Monday.......looking forward to Chapter 8
