Monday 11/30/09 Matthew Chapter 8

Sorry about yesterday I labeled the wrong chapter it should have read 7.  Today for sure is the 8th Chapter in Matthew.

Well today back to the routine of life.  It is nice to have time off and nice to get back to the routine of our life.

Chapter 8

1 can you imagine how tired Jesus must have been after preaching and then hiking down a mountain? Then to be asked "Lord if you are willing you can make me clean"  3 Jesus reached out His had and said "I am willing"  "Be clean".  To me this tells me that Jesus is always willing but we have to get to a place in order to ask Him.

5 What/Who is a centurion??  I am quite confused about all that is said in area???  Can someone help me to understand more.    Especially in verses 10-12  HELP!!

15 I love when Peter's mom is healed that she got up and began to wait on Him.

17 then the prophet Isaiah was fulfilled again. Isaiah 53:4

22.....Jesus stated "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead"  Can't imagine how this disciple must have felt.  First they had to walk away from the "family business" then couldn't go to bury their father.  What a scrafice....

26  I think it is so amazing how we get "scared" in our lives and feel like we have to "wake" Jesus.

29  What appointed time are the 2 demon possessed me referring too?

34 Why would the whole town plead with Jesus to leave their region??  (Afraid that He would kill more pigs??)

This chapter has alot of questions for me!!  HELP!!

  1. verse 5, 10-12...a centurian is a Roman officer. This officer was telling Jesus that he believed that if Jesus simply SPOKE healing for the servant it would actually make the healing happen because Jesus had that kind of authority. The centurian gave the example that when he gave an order his men simply followed the orders because he spoke with the authority and power of his position as a centurian....the centurian believed that Jesus had that kind of authority/power. When Jesus saw that the officer had such complete trust in His ablility to heal, it amazed Him. His own chosen people couldn't step outside of their "box" to see that He was indeed the Messiah, but this ROMAN officer had faith that He could indeed heal the servant. Christ spoke of Gentiles being a part of the "feast in the Kingdom of Heaven" while those who appeared to be religious were caught in their religious traps and would find themselves thrown into hell.

verse 23-27 I can totally relate to the sense of panic the disciples must have felt as the storm grew and Jesus slept. They had seen Him perform miracles so they probably figured that they had to ask Him to do another. (Did they really think He'd allow the boat to sink while He was in it???) Rather than telling themselves that Jesus was right there and wouldn't allow the storm to consume their boat, they had to wake Him up to "tell Him" of the danger!! Don't we do that when we find ourselves trapped in difficult circumstances.

29...the appointed time the demons refer to may mean they are aware of what is going to happen to them at the end of the world....(The demons will be thrown into the lake of fire. They were saying that this shouldn't happen until the time GOd had determined for the end of the world.) This passage should also be a lesson to us to be careful what we wish for. The demons got more than they bargained for when they asked to be cast into the herd of pgis. God gave us free will....and that includes giving us what we want even when it may eventually lead to our destruction.

34 The people of the town would want Jesus to leave their region because He made them uncomfortable....He did as he pleased and couldn't be controlled. He went against the traditional ways of the Jewish leaders. The people had also witnessed things they'd never seen before and were afraid of the power Jesus had.

Hope some of this makes sense....I'm really tired (well, it is almost 1:30) and this is the SECOND time I've tried to comment on your post. I was just about finished with my FIRST comments when I touched the "wrong" key and my entire post just vanished into thin air!!!! I was not happy !!!

    Enjoy your Tuesday!!!
